Preparation seminar

Hei out there :)

Having time is something completely different - the final oral exam is next week - but I'll try to write my first blog post.

Since yesterday afternoon I'm back from Wünsdorf-Waldstadt (Berlin) where our preparation seminar has taken place. And I have to say that I miss all people, I got to know there. We had nine absolute amazing days, which were full of learning units but also with fun.

As you can see, our days were full.

At the beginning we widened our knowledge about South Afrika. And - of course - I could put the Wikipedia website by "Copy&Paste" directly here, but that would be boring..

So here's a short summary of what you maybe should know before you go to SA:

With a total area of ca. 1.219.912 km°2 South Africa is 3,4 as great as Germany and with a population of 54Mio inhabitants merely 2/3 as many inhabitants.

All in all is our GDP (Gross Domestic Product) approximately 11 times bigger than the GDP of South Africa.

The birthrate there is much more higher as the deathrate, while we Germans become extinct (deathrate > birthrate)...

On the other hand, the life expectancy in SA is merely by the age of 49,4 ages..

That's the situation today, but wasn't there something important in the past? Ah yeah, the thing with the arrest of Nelson Mandela - Apartheid.

But what's that - Apartheid?

--> it denotes the nationally defined and organized (skin color) segregation..

But how could the system of the Apartheid be established?

The whites were clearly the minority!

--> Well that's a good question.
1652 the first Buren (Dutchmen) came to South Africa to
the Cape of Good Hope to supply the ships, that travel to
    India.
In 1806 the British Empire founded a colony in South Afrika.
Wars followed, until 1931 South Africa got independent.
In both cases of colonization, the natives were repressed.

After World War 2, the race segregation was fixed by law
    (Population Act - social segregation),
(Group Areas Act - spatial segregation).

An arbitrary government began. Through the significant
military superiority it was possible for the Whites to supress
    the Non-White minority.

It was further determined by excluding the Non-Whites from the education system.

By model learning, associative learning, reward and punishment systems, the separation had been fixed in society much earlier and also had been inherited.

I know, these are many many facts, but I mean - who don't want to make mine detonate, should know where they are.

By the way, in the seminars, we always were attentive and interested with the thing. And an Energizer makes really a lot at the beginning and also strengthens the group dynamics.

We as a group got nearly a family in these nine amazing days. When I'm allowed at this point to speak to the other volenteers - I really miss you all and looking forward to an unforgettable year with you!

Also a big THANK YOU goes to SAGE Net who make this year possible for us.

That's all at the moment of me,

I wish you all a nice weekend

and all who has their oral exam(s) next week - good luck.

Some Impressions of our week :)
